Soft Washing vs. Pressure Washing

Soft washing and pressure washing are not interchangeable.

Pressure washing relies primarily on the mechanical force of water. It is generally better suited to durable hard surfaces such as suitable concrete driveways, sidewalks and patios.

Soft washing relies on professional cleaning solutions and a much gentler water application. It is often the preferred approach for siding, stucco, painted finishes and other exterior materials that could be marked, etched or disturbed by excessive pressure.

Using too much pressure on a home exterior may:

• Damage stucco or surface coatings
• Lift loose paint
• Leave visible cleaning marks
• Force water behind siding
• Disturb seals around openings
• Affect soft or deteriorated materials

The professional choice is not always the strongest equipment setting. It is the cleaning method that fits the surface.

Our Soft-Wash Process

We begin by reviewing the requested cleaning areas and identifying materials that require special attention. Existing damage, loose paint, open windows and other visible concerns are noted before application.

The surrounding work area is prepared as appropriate. A professional solution is then applied at low pressure and allowed to remain on the surface for a controlled period.

This dwell time helps loosen contamination without aggressive blasting. The treated surface is rinsed gently, usually from top to bottom, so the released dirt and remaining cleaning product are carried away.

Problem areas may receive additional treatment when appropriate. After rinsing, we review the completed surfaces and the surrounding work area.

Soft Washing for Stucco and Siding

Stucco is common on California homes and can collect dust, cobwebs and dark or green buildup within its textured surface. Excessive pressure may damage weak areas or alter the appearance of the finish.

Soft washing allows the cleaning solution to reach textured areas while limiting mechanical force. Application strength and rinse pressure are adjusted to the stucco’s visible condition.

Siding also benefits from a material-specific approach. The process must account for panel joints, vents, trim, openings and the condition of the existing finish. Water direction is controlled to reduce the risk of forcing moisture behind the surface.

Roof Soft Washing Is Assessed Separately

Although low-pressure treatments may also be used during professional roof cleaning, a roof requires its own inspection and cleaning plan.

Roofing materials should not be treated like exterior walls. Moss, algae, lichen and black streaks may require different solution strengths, application methods and safety precautions.
